Georgia EBT and SNAP (Food Stamps)
In Georgia, SNAP is run by the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), part of the Department of Human Services, and its pages still call it food stamps as well1. You apply, renew and read notices in Georgia Gateway, and benefits land on a Georgia EBT card run by Conduent1,8. Since March 2, 2026, Georgia no longer gives 24-month approvals: most new cases are approved for six months, and the periodic report between renewals is being phased out20,19. Most households face the federal 130% gross income line. Georgia has no soda or candy restriction, and it did not run Summer EBT in 202612,25,27.

Using Georgia Gateway for SNAP, Medicaid and TANF
Georgia Gateway is one system for SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, WIC and CAPS child care2. The same application covers TANF cash help28, Medicaid and PeachCare29, and Georgia Pathways30. Choose "Apply for Benefits." Online applications are open Monday to Friday, 5 a.m. to midnight. They are closed on weekends and holidays1. With an account, you can track your application, report changes, renew, and file a periodic report if one is still due17,19.
DFCS asks you to upload applications, renewals and proof in Gateway. If you are not online, mail them to your county office2. Work-rule notices appear in your Gateway notices22. To apply by phone, call 1-877-423-47461. Private health plans are sold at Georgia Access, the state marketplace31. LIHEAP energy help goes through local Community Action Agencies32.
The Georgia EBT card and ConnectEBT lock
The head of household gets one card for the whole household. It comes by mail. Activate it and choose a PIN at 1-888-421-3281, on ConnectEBT, or in the app8. The card does not expire. Four wrong PINs lock the account until midnight8. To replace a lost, stolen or damaged card, call, use the portal, or ask your caseworker. Replacement cards are mailed in active status8.
You can lock your card on ConnectEBT. "Locked Everywhere" blocks every purchase. "Locked Outside of State" still allows Georgia stores and online retailers. An unlocked card can lock itself again after 30, 60 or 90 minutes3. On July 28, 2025, a cyberattack hit Conduent's EBT phone line. DHS locked some cards before that month's deposit and asked everyone to use the lock5. DHS later said the line was back online with new monitoring4.
Georgia stopped taking stolen-benefit claims on June 20, 2025. SNAP stolen on or after December 21, 2024 cannot be replaced6. If you think your card was skimmed, lock or replace it. Then report it to the DHS Office of Inspector General at 1-877-423-4746, option 66. DFCS also advises changing your PIN just before each deposit7. The June 2026 manual section on EBT cards does not mention chip cards8.

Applying for food stamps through DFCS
- Decide between regular SNAP and Senior SNAP. If everyone at home is 65 or older, nobody works, and income is fixed (Social Security, a pension, VA or railroad retirement), use Form 298 for Senior SNAP21. Everyone else uses Form 297 or Gateway1.
- File in Gateway, by phone or on paper. Apply in Gateway on a weekday, or call 1-877-423-47461. You can also mail, fax or bring Form 297 to a county DFCS office17. You have filed once DFCS has a form with your name, address and signature1.
- Do the phone interview. A DFCS eligibility specialist interviews you by phone1. If you get an On-Demand Interview Notice, call DFCS yourself before the deadline. If you miss the interview, you must reschedule it15.
- Send your proofs within 10 days. DFCS asks for proof of identity, income, rent and child care costs, and medical bills for members 60 or older or disabled17. You have 10 calendar days to send them20. Upload them in Gateway if you can2.
- Activate the card when it arrives. The card arrives by mail. Activate it and set a PIN at 1-888-421-3281 or on ConnectEBT8.
DFCS has 30 days to decide. If your household qualifies for expedited service, you must have the card, the PIN and the benefits by the 7th calendar day after you apply17,16. You get a phone interview unless you ask to meet in person15. At the interview, adults are screened for SNAP Works. This is Georgia's voluntary job-training program, and it can help with transportation and other costs15,34.
Georgia's 130% gross income line for FY2027
| Household size | Gross income limit (130%) | Net income limit (100%) | Maximum benefit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $1,729 | $1,330 | $306 |
| 2 | $2,345 | $1,804 | $562 |
| 3 | $2,960 | $2,277 | $808 |
| 4 | $3,575 | $2,750 | $1,023 |
| 5 | $4,191 | $3,224 | $1,217 |
| 6 | $4,806 | $3,697 | $1,463 |
| 7 | $5,421 | $4,170 | $1,616 |
| 8 | $6,037 | $4,644 | $1,841 |
| Each additional person | +$616 | +$474 | +$225 |
Gross limit: 130% of the 2026 HHS poverty guideline divided by 12, rounded up. Net limit and maximum benefit: USDA FY2027 cost-of-living adjustments. All states compared.
Georgia's categorical eligibility comes through TANF Community Outreach Services (TCOS). This referral service is explained at the interview. Signing Form 297, 297A or 508 makes you eligible for it10. The TCOS income line is 130% of poverty, the same as the federal gross test. That is why the table uses the federal FY2027 figures12,13. If every adult is elderly or disabled, the line is 200%: $2,660 a month for one person and $3,607 for two under the HHS 2026 guidelines10,14.
One- and two-person households in TCOS get at least the minimum benefit, even above the net limit. Larger households above it get nothing10. The DFCS manual still shows the income chart from October 1, 202536. It also still lists the FY2026 utility allowances: $405 heating/cooling, $358 limited and $47 phone35. This page therefore shows no FY2027 utility figures.
Net income test. If you qualify through TANF Community Outreach Services (TCOS), you face no separate net income test10. A household is not categorically eligible if its gross income is over 130% and it has an elderly or disabled member. That household must pass the 100% net income test instead: $1,330 a month for one person from October 1, 202610,13.
Assets. TCOS, TANF and SSI households have no asset limit10,12. Households outside categorical eligibility face the federal FY2027 limits: $3,000, or $4,750 with a member who is 60 or older or disabled13. Section 3405 of the DFCS manual still shows the older $4,500 figure11.
Georgia SNAP deposit dates by client ID
On odd-numbered days from the 5th to the 23rd of each month, based on the last two digits of the head of household's client ID number.
| Client ID ends in | Benefits available |
|---|---|
| 00-09 | 5th |
| 10-19 | 7th |
| 20-29 | 9th |
| 30-39 | 11th |
| 40-49 | 13th |
| 50-59 | 15th |
| 60-69 | 17th |
| 70-79 | 19th |
| 80-89 | 21st |
| 90-99 | 23rd |
Your Gateway client ID is also your EBT case number8,9. The first payment is different: it posts after DFCS approves the case and is prorated from the day you applied9. Unused benefits carry over. After 9 months with no card use, benefits are removed one month at a time, oldest first. Any purchase restarts the count8.
Six-month approvals, renewals and the end of periodic reports
For cases approved on or after March 2, 2026, most households get six months. Households where every adult is elderly or disabled and no one has earnings get 12 months20. Households with a time-limited adult get four months15, and Senior SNAP households get 3638. Georgia no longer gives 24-month approvals37. Periodic reports stop after your first renewal on or after March 2, 2026. Six-month households can skip the interview at every other renewal, but everyone has an interview at least once a year19.
File your renewal by the 15th of your last month to avoid a gap. After that date it is untimely. Within 30 days after the approval ends it is late, and benefits are prorated18. Between renewals, report three things: household gross income over 130% of poverty, time-limited work below 20 hours a week, and gambling winnings of $4,750 or more23.
Rules specific to Georgia
Time limit for ages 18 to 64 since November 1, 2025, with no waived areas
From November 1, 2025, Georgia applies the time limit to adults 18 to 64 who can work, are not pregnant and have no child under 14 at home22. Veterans and homeless people are not exempt for that reason alone22. People aged 60 to 64 are covered from October 1, 202622. Without 80 hours a month of work, training or Comparable Workfare, you get 3 months in the period ending November 30, 202622. No Georgia area has a time limit waiver in the first quarter of FY202724.
Senior SNAP at age 65 from May 1, 2026
Senior SNAP is a simpler track for households where everyone is elderly, nobody works and income is fixed. The minimum age was 66 from February 2 to April 30, 2026, and 65 from May 1, 202620. Approvals last 36 months. Renewals usually need no interview38. The main DFCS SNAP page still says 60; the Senior SNAP page and the manual say 651,21.
No food restriction waiver, Restaurant Meals Program or Summer EBT
Georgia is not on the federal list of food restriction waivers (updated October 13, 2026), so soda and candy are still eligible25. It has no Restaurant Meals Program26. The federal map lists Summer EBT as not available in Georgia for 202627.
